Hello 2014!

Towards the end of 2013, I completely lost motivation to do anything apart from sleeping, shopping and the minimum amount of school work possible which is why i started slacking on posting on this newly found blog of mine. For many teenagers all over the world, a good break to catch up on sleep (and er homework?) was much needed to get everyone back to normal.

2014 holds a lot of hope for me on the travelling front so i'm looking forward to being able to witness new things, enjoy myself and work a lot harder to achieve everything I want to. I think i've got to the point now where i've realised that if I don't work hard, then i'm not going to live the life I truly want to and along with that, comes the realisation that being yourself and taking things lightly gets you further than taking life too seriously! This year i'm hoping to actually start creating memories that i will be able to look back on and be proud of, or things that could lead to other opportunities. Along with the whole 'be more light hearted' thing, one of my other new year resolutions is to take better care of myself which is anything to exercising just a tad bit more than i do already (which is nothing) to reading more intellectually stimulating books that I will learn things from, rather than spending the majority of my time watching drake and josh reruns on netflix, which is a nice way to spend saturday afternoons but not one that my future self will be proud of. On that note, i hope to update more regularly on here to practice writing what I really enjoy and also so i have something to look back on at the end of this year to hopefully be proud of!

October purchases/favourites

Currently, in the UK it's half term. This can only mean one thing- shopping, a lot of it. 3 days into the week and I had already been shopping 4 times (oops).

I haven't found any nice knitted jumpers so far this autumn so I was determined to find a cosy one for a reasonable price as many (cough Topshop cough) are way too overpriced for the quality. However, saying that, i did buy two from Topshop even though I had originally said I didn't like the fluffy type, I was bored so I tried it on and may have accidentally bought it as it's really warm and easy to throw on, which i did with a black lace skirt. On my next shopping trip to Cambridge I bought a sort of fluffy pastel pink jumper as I have been admiring the pink fluffy coats at the moment and decided that pink is a colour to wear this season. As I was having a browse around Topshop, I spotted some grey leigh jeans which I thought were a nice alternative to black jeans as I wear way too much black sometimes. My final main clothing purchase was a black lace skirt from Urban Outfitters which I think will be easy to dress up and down, especially for the christmassy season.

For a long while, I have been after a red Chanel lipstick (number 19 'Gabrielle') and finally I treated myself to it. I can easily say i'm in love. It's so creamy and pretty and ahhh just perfect. A girl can never own enough nail polishes so I bought two more autumnal colours, Essie's 'Thigh High' and Topshop's 'Rainy Days'. I've also really been liking Flora by Gucci (gorgeous gardenia) as it's really girly and floral but doesn't smell like my grandma.

A good excuse to shop

A couple of weeks ago, I went on a textiles trip with my school to The Knitting and Stitching Show, let me just say that the name does not do it justice! The trip was originally for year 11s however myself and a couple of friends went along to fill up the spaces and in my case, for a day off of school. As I went on a friday, there were a lot of schools there and loads of elderly people (to put it nicely) which was stereotypically expected.
The show was held at Alexandra Palace in London which is so pretty and not too far away, even though we didn't get to stay for long. For the first hour, we made sketches of some things made by the exhibitors in the gallery then for the afternoon we got to go shopping! The best way to describe it is 'a textiles version of the clothes show' as the shopping part was almost exactly the same.
I found the trip so enjoyable and there was so so so much to buy. I bought some cute christmas decorations for my mum and for myself, some buttons and a little compact mirror.

I'm really into pretty collars at the moment so i wore this pale blue blouse with black topshop jeans, chelsea boots, my black boyfriend coat and a tartan scarf! Sorry for the awfully taken photo, the lighting was bad and I am awful at photography.

'It' Girl

"Nobody wants a real job anymore. Everyone wants to be Alexa Chung."- Noel Fielding

I feel like this is such a generic, cliché post but lets face it, it takes too much willpower to not talk or write about Alexa Chung. With the recent publication of her book 'It' she's been in the spotlight even more, giving teenage girls all over the world an insight to her life by using charming wit to convey thoughts and most importantly, fashion tips.

Many might consider It (see what I did there) a complete waste of time and an embarrassing example of literature, however, Chung's originality, randomness and influence on many teenagers (and adults, most probably) is completely astounding, making this book a must read for those interested in fashion or just Alexa. It's the perfect coffee table book with unique drawings and photos to break up the pages filled with her ingenious musings.

I ordered her book on the release date and to my delight, it was delivered the following day and I managed to read it in under an hour due to the fact that it was impossible to put down. Words cannot explain how lovely it was to read about the things which made Alexa the way she is and to actually learn about her inspirations and true opinions on fashion.

I admire her laid back appearance which mirrors her attitude, especially her signature eyeliner flick, striped t-shirts and bed-head bob. Chung is the one person that the girls want to be and the boys want to know so in my opinion, 'It' is the perfect name for this book because no one can deny that Alexa Chung is definitely 'It'!

a little introduction

Sitting on my own, with no homework (for once in the whole of my education) and absolutely nothing to do, has inspired me slightly, or should I say 'given me a good excuse to actually do something productive.'  So as you may know, this is officially my first blog post. I've been meaning to start my blog properly for ages but i've quite frankly been pretty scared and I have had absolutely no ideas! Hopefully this post will give me a bit of a kick start because i'm really looking forward to writing about things that I love, for other people to read and be interested in (fingers crossed.) At the moment, I have a few ideas for blog posts in the near future regarding clothes i've bought, things i've made (the most exciting for me, eeeek!) and my own extra little thoughts and outings with my chums.

Ever since i was little, I have always been fussy with what I wear as I have to be confident and comfortable yet different to others. This mainly started with taking fancy dress outfits along with me everywhere when I was a lot younger, which soon spiralled into the neon, cartoon t-shirt phase when I about 10 - just thinking about it makes me want to gag. Putting that aside, the point is that this blog will hopefully be somewhere I can 'express myself' and a relaxing little side project to show what I truly enjoy. As many of my friends and family will know, I happen to own quite a lot of clothes and I always have a wishlist of some sort so I really hope that I can share all of that kinda thing with those of you kind enough to read!
Also, I really don't want this to appear boring and lengthy (lets be honest, no one finds a plain page of words interesting.) So i'm going to add in a pretty picture of Lombard Street from my trip to California last year, it's just too lovely to miss out and re
minders of this holiday are just great!

(PS: sorry for this being boring, first is always the worst.) x
